I really didn't need a new website. The old one was still functional and funny; I liked adding and editing the definition of myself like in a real dictonary. Words evolve like humans do.

Anyway, I had two main reasons to put my hands again on the website. Ok maybe more, but mostly:

  1. I was alone and bored and I wanted to produce something. I don't know if that happens to you, ever, but I have these moments when I need to creat, to make something new, something mine. Also, the weather is disgustin - at the moment it's the 31st of July, it's raining, it's windy and 18. I ❤️ Amsterdam.
  2. It's been so long I've been looking for a place to park my pictures. Assuming Flickr is not a thing anymore, I wanted a web space where I could just upload my albums so that I can find them quickly and go down the memory lane without having to find the right external hard drive, find the right cable and adapter etc etc. So, here it is, I made it myself.

For the nerds.

I've been looking for online platform to store pictures, for free. Big big failure. There are many valuable products but are also extremely expensive; and with extremely, I mean that $9/month are too much for my basic and limited usage. Not a photographer, bye.

Then I moved into the self-hosted CMS for pictures. Oh god what a tragedy! The only valuable product was Koken - which I've been using for years on my last website, until it definitely broke. I then learnt that it's been discontinued and puff, Koken no more. The other alternatives where so heavy and estetically disgusting that I couldn't make it - still with PHP and galleries like it's 2005 all over again?

I should've known before that I would end up with Ghost. I've been testing it from the beginning and now, at it's 4th version, I think it's the ultimate CMS light-yet-powerful solution - it's the same I'm using for 3PO Podcast's website. It takes some skills to set it up and keep it functional, but hey, that's the fun part!
